Why Does Misted Glass Occur?

Double glazing is comprised of two panes of glass that are sealed together in a single unit. Between the two panes, the manufacturers trap a layer of air (or sometimes gas), and it’s this layer that creates the insulating barrier that keeps the cold out and the heat in.

If the seal that holds the glass panes in place fails, then condensation can form between the two layers. But under what circumstances would this seal fail? There are numerous reasons, but the most typical one is age.

What’s the Solution?

First, ensure you’ve identified the problem correctly. If the misting is in between the double glazed unit, which will need to be replaced. Very often, the solution is simply to replace the glass unit, renewing the seal in the process. If you’ve noticed this problem, why not call Abbey Glass Chester today? For FREE Advice.
